Cycling Fever in Pitlochry
Once again this year Pitlochry has cycling fever following last week’s annual Marie Curie Etape Caledonia race, which starts and finishes in our lovely town. It was fantastic to see sport and charity come together in what was a great day out for townspeople, tourists and cyclists alike.
If you want to get on two wheels and make the most of beautiful Pitlochry and the surrounding...

Happy Easter from Wellwood
Wellwood House wishes all our guests and their families a very happy Easter! While the weather has been a little more snowy than usual for this time of year (not ideal for the Easter chicks, or lambs for that matter), that won't stop us celebrating with guests, friends and family. Looking forward to lots of chocolate, good food and maybe some easter egg rolling at Blair...
In the latter part of last year Wellwood House was awarded another certificate of excellence by tripadvisor. Needless to say we are delighted to see that so many guests liked our home and service enough to give us a five star rating. As a listed building there are limits to what can be done, but if we can recreate a sense of this building's original grandeur, then we feel certain our efforts are not wasted.
Summer has well and truly arrived in Pitlochry and the Wellwood House garden is blooming. With the beautiful weather we are having, guests are enjoying walks by the river and watching the salmon jump from the Fish Ladder and the banks of Loch Faskally. Walks are finished with a visit to Eradour Distillery for a wee dram - perfect summer evenings at Pitlochry!
Wellwood House in central Pitlochry is a fine listed building, c. 1881, where those wishing to sample a little of the historic feel of Highland Perthshire are made most welcome. Rooms vary in size from large to moderately small, as one would expect from such an old building. Almost all have have been upgraded with new en-suites.
The Antique Room is a real hit with visitors as the genuine antiques...
Caught this quick snap on my mobile phone the other day when I was passing the woodpile. Snowdrops waking up and heralding spring.
It's lovely in Pitlochry these last few days; crisp mornings, winter sun and scenery that makes your heart swell.
Highland Perthshire for Historical Break
Scotland's prime lake-land and mountain destination requires time to see all that it offers.
Highland Perthshire area is a popular choice for those wishing to taste historical and scenic Scotland. We have conversations every day with visitors to our Pitlochry bed & breakfast about great scenic drives. Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch, and Loch Tay are within...
Winter storms create space for replanting in Wellwood's gardens.
3, 20 metre tall, Cyprus pines, probably planted when Wellwood was built, were blown over in the winter storms creating an open area for re-planting. Davy, our gardner , has already cleared the area and has plans to create a feature to impress the Pitlochry In Bloom judges in August. Winning a silver award last year has encouraged us to try even...
Sometimes touring the Scottish countryside may result in one sausage too many! The option to have fruit, cereal and yogurt is a very welcome one. On the other hand, most every breakfast at least one person will say.."I really shouldn't but I'm going to have the full Scottish".What a way to start your day, crippled with guilt before you even set off.
If you can't resist the lure of the full...
